The Rus principalities under the Golden Horde period 1240s–1360s

Because of the fightings among the different feudal states in Kyivan Rus the Mongol's under Batu Khan quite easily managed capture large parts of what is today Ukraine 1239–1241 and it become part of the Khanate of the Golden Horde, a Mongolian state. Although the Mongol's control over the area they had conquered was very weak. In fact the area was never incorporated directly into the Golden Horde but it was always a vassal state with a fair degree of independence.
