The
Kyivan Rus –1240s
The
powerful state of Rus (Kyivan Rus) grew around Kiev in the 800s
and 900s. In the 11th century Kyivan Rus was geographically the
largest state in Europe. Kyivan Rus prince Volodymyr converted the
Kyivan nobility and most of the population to Christianity in year
988. Conflict among the feudal lords led to decline in the 12th
century and many small feudal states were formed. In the beginning
of the 13th century the main Rus principality was Galicia-Volhynia
under prince Danylo Romanovych.
